Average crop condition observed in early-to-mid October 2021 in China

November 01, 2021

During the monitoring period from Sep 30th - Oct 16th, 2021, corn has been harvested in North China and Northeast China. The late rice in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River was in the stage of milky and mature. The single cropping rice in Jiangsu, Fujian, Zhejiang and Anhui was at the milky and mature stage, while harvest has been completed in most of the remaining areas. Winter wheat in northern China and Xinjiang was at the sowing and emergence stage.

In general, the national crop condition is the same as the average level of the past five years. In southeastern of Northwest China, North China and northern Yellow River and Huaihuai regions, precipitation was higher and temperature was lower in some areas, with periods of low temperature and continuous rainy weather, which was unfavourable to the full maturity of autumn crops and harvest drying, and some crops were delayed in the harvesting period. Crop growth was lower than the average level of previous years, mainly in south-central Hebei and northwestern Shandong. The Northeast China was affected by higher rain and lower sunshine, which was unfavourable to the full maturity of the autumn crop and harvest drying, while the harvesting period of some crops was delayed, resulting in the crop growth remaining below average, mainly in the central Jilin and central Heilongjiang. In the southwest, the crop growth of Sichuan basin was below average due to continuous rains.

Overall, most of the main agricultural production areas in the country have good Agro-climatic conditions. CropWatch predicts that China's autumn grain production situation is better
